Shanghai Foreign Studies University originated from the Shanghai Russian School attached to the East China People's Revolutionary University, which was established in 1949; Later, the school was renamed as Shanghai Foreign Languages Institute in 1956 after the stage of Shanghai Russian Language Specialized School; In 1958, the English major of the Department of Foreign Languages of Shanghai First Normal University was incorporated; In 1994, it was officially renamed as Shanghai Foreign Studies University. Shanghai Foreign Studies University is now a university directly under the Ministry of Education and a national key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
