Capital University of Economics and Business originated from Beijing Labor Cadre School and Beijing Experimental Workers Technical School, which were established in 1956. In 1958, the two schools merged to establish Beijing Institute of Labor, which was later renamed as Beijing Institute of Economics; In 1974, the economics major of Beijing College of Business Administration was incorporated; In 1986, the Department of Materials Management was assigned to Beijing Institute of Materials; In 1995, Beijing Institute of Economics and Beijing Institute of Finance and Trade merged to form Capital University of Economics and Business. Capital University of Economics and Business is now a key university in Beijing.
