Taiyuan University of Technology is a century university with a long history, profound connotation and distinctive characteristics. Its predecessor is the Western Learning Workshop of Shanxi University, which was founded in 1902. It is one of the three earliest national universities in China. It is located in Taiyuan, a national historical and cultural city with a history of more than 2500 years. In 1953, the university was established independently, named Taiyuan Institute of Technology, directly under the Ministry of Higher Education; In 1962, it was put under the management of Shanxi Province; It was renamed Taiyuan University of Technology in 1984. In 1997, Taiyuan University of Technology merged with Shanxi Institute of Mining (founded in 1958) directly under the Ministry of Coal Industry of the People's Republic of China to form Taiyuan University of Technology. In the same year, Taiyuan University of Technology became one of the key universities in the "211 Project", opening a new chapter in reform and development. In 2017, the university was selected as a national "double first-class" key construction university, ushering in a new period of development.
