Shanghai University of Science and Technology was officially established on September 30, 2013 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. From 2013 to 2016, the university and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly recruited four consecutive postgraduate students for master's degree and doctoral degree. In 2014, undergraduate students were recruited. From 2017, the university can independently recruit and cultivate master's and doctoral students. Shanghai University of Science and Technology is a full-time ordinary university jointly organized and constructed by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is under the charge of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It focuses on science and engineering and integrates science and education with the research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
