Northeast Normal University (NENU), located in Changchun, Jilin Province, is a public university under the direct administration of China’s Ministry of Education. Established in 1946 as Northeast University (which makes it the first comprehensive university founded by the CPC in the northeastern region), it was renamed Northeast Normal University in 1950. NENU is part of the national Project 211 and participates in the “985 Project” Innovation Platform for Teacher Education, and is also included in China’s Double First-Class (“world-class disciplines”) initiative. Over the years it has evolved into a comprehensive, research-oriented institution, with coverage in twelve major disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, management, art, and interdisciplinary fields. The university has two campuses (the “People’s Street” campus and the “Jingyue” campus), maintains a strong focus on teacher education, and supports significant graduate education: as of its most recent reports, it offers 23 first-level doctoral disciplines, 24 in some accounts, and hosts a large graduate student body.
