About

Hainan University is a comprehensive key university formed by merging the former South China Tropical Agricultural University and the former Hainan University in August 2007. The former South China University of Tropical Agriculture, founded in 1958, is closely linked with the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, which was founded in 1954. It is also known as the "Hot Cropping Academy" and the "Twin Star" in the field of tropical agricultural science and education in China. The former Hainan University made a hard start on a wasteland in 1983. In December 2008, the university was approved by the state as a key construction university of the "211 Project"; In 2012, it was included in the construction of the "Plan for Revitalizing Higher Education in Central and Western China"; In 2017, it was selected as a national world-class discipline construction university; In 2018, it will become a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and Hainan Provincial Government. At present, Hainan University has developed into a comprehensive university with national key construction and extensive influence on regional economic and social development, and has established the largest and relatively complete undergraduate, master and doctoral integrated talent training system in Hainan Province.
