China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), founded in 1909 (originally as the Jiaozuo School of Railroad and Mines), is a public national key university located in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, under the direct administration of China’s Ministry of Education. As one of the first universities in China authorized to grant master’s and doctoral degrees, CUMT is among the institutions included in the “Project 211” and recognized under the “985 Innovation Platform for Advantageous Disciplines,” and from 2017 its leading disciplines, notably Mining Engineering and Safety Engineering, are part of the national “Double First-Class” discipline construction. While its historical and core strength lies in mining, mineral resources, geosciences and coal-energy engineering, the university has evolved into a multidisciplinary institution: beyond resource and mining fields, its academic offerings now span engineering, environmental and earth sciences, material science, chemistry, computer science, management, economics, humanities and more. With state-key laboratories, numerous national-level research platforms, and a broad spectrum of undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral programs, CUMT combines a legacy of over a century in mining education with modern research, innovation and comprehensive higher education — contributing to China’s energy, coal, resource and sustainable-development sectors while gradually broadening its academic influence.
